If I use a Raspberry Pi as a NeoRouter Server, should I expect a throughput downgrade? And/or a larger latency?

I expect a YES (RaspberryPi is expected to be a client in many cases) but I am curious about
- how much degradation is to be expected;
- how dependent is the degradation from case to case.

In any case, I will purchase a Raspberry PI to see if a NeoRouter Server running on it is suitable for my experiment setting.

Thanks in advance.

Hi personanongrata,

It depends. The main factors are:

1. The ability for NR Clients to establish P2P connections instead of relaying through server.
If most of NR clients can be connected directly (UDP/TCP P2P connections), there is no performance downgrade.

2. CPU
Rpi has a slow CPU, but it's still faster than some home routers. If some of the NR clients have to use server to relay packets, the performance will be down for sure. It would be depending on how many connections get relayed and how fast is the CPU.

Thanks,
KevinZ - NeoRouter team
