I am using pfsense as my main router/firewall, I am using neorouter to monitor a total 25 of desktop/servers remotely. I transfer file using ftp using neorouter/peer to peer connection between desktop and servers. At one of the remote location i am also using pfsense as the main router and the rest are using ddwrt router. Using pfsense at one end and ddwrt on the other end, the peer to peer connection by neorouter can not be establish, however if I use ddwrt on both ends peer to peer connection is estbalish during ftp transfer. Are there any special configuration on my main pfsense router/firewall that I need to do so that peer to peer connection can be established? Also, using pfsense as the main router where neorouter is sitting behind it, are there any special configuration I need to do so that pfsense and neorouter can work together flawlessly?

Hi johnny2000,

If both peers are behind symmetric NAT or strict firewalls, they cannot establish P2P connection. Since NR v2.4, NR client supports a new feature option (Feature.ini)

MinP2PListenPort=0 (default 0; 0 - use any valid port from OS; [valid port number] - use the specified port number)

With this option, you can specify the port range. If you can open the port range in your firewall and setup NR client telling it the port range used for establishing P2P connection, it will help.

Thanks,

By the way, just a follow-up, do I need to do something on the server side also? When you say "open port range on the firewall" you mean to port forward it to the NR client computer? Thank you.

This is what I did and it solves the problem but not really elegant. As I am using pfsense as my main router, I put the neorouter in the DMZ and the problem was solve. My question is what ports are really necessary to be open in the firewall so that neorouter will work flawlessly?
