I am trying to RDP to a Windows 2008 R2 computer.

When I RDP from my Windows 8 laptop via the VPN it works fine.

When I RDP from my Windows 7 desktop without using the VPN it works fine.

When I RDP from the same Windows 7 desktop via the VPN, it never connects. I get the login dialog but it never completes the connection. When I check the event logs on the Windows 2008 computer there appear to be Winlogon (4005) errors that correspond to the failed attempts.

Everything else I have tried across the VPN from the Windows 7 computer seems to work. (telnet, ftp, ping)

Any thoughts on how to resolve this issue would appreciated.

Scott

Hi rsw,

If you use NR Pro/Mesh, please double check the ACL/built-in firewall settings and make sure the NR account has permission to access the RDP/terminal service on the remote computer.

Please also double check the firewall settings of Windows on the target machine, make sure it accept connection from the NR virtual IP address.

Besides that, there would be some restricts related to the policy and so on.

Thanks,
KevinZ - NeoRouter team

I've checked the firewall settings. The built in firewall is turned off. The windows firewall settings seem correct.

The odd thing is I am connecting to the remote computer from two different workstations. On the first, (Windows 8) everything works fine (RDP, FTP, SQL Server). On the second (Windows 7), the same functions time out. I'm using the same NeoRouter User Account on both computers.

I have tried turning off the firewall on the local Windows 7 computer with no effect. The only thing that seems to help is selecting "Relay through server" on the P2P Connection Options setting.
