Post subject:  Can computers in different LAN communicate via NeoRouter ?

I've read the user manual of Neorouter, well, I don't fully understand it, especially things like "port forwarding"..

I'm here not for help of port forwarding. I just want to know whether Neorouter are suitable of my situation.

My situation:
There are 2 PC (win7). They locates in different LAN, so each of them hasn't real IP (public IP), they have only LAN IP, just like: 192.168.188.*, 192.168.1.*.
I'm pretty sure the admin of each LAN refuses any request of port forwarding on the router.

I wish:
From either PC, I can visit share files (or FTP) on the other PC.

Are Neorouter capable of my situation ?
Best regards.

yes, as long as both computers can talk to a neorouter server and join a neorouter network.

Thank you very much, ElTopo :)
And all functions you mentioned above need NOT to modify settings on the physical router, right ? For I don't have the permission.

Best regards,

I am almost (99%) certain you don't need to deal with router port forwarding. The worst scenario is your clients cannot make p2p direct connection and have to use the server as relay (slower but working).

Needless to say, you should try in your network, maybe your network administrators have other restrictions that could affect neorouter.

The IP address upon is our school's public IP. My home don't have public IP like that, I only have IP like 192.168.1.xxx.
Does it mean that neorouter doesn't support my situation ?

Best regards,
mebanna.

Hi mebanna,

If you try to setup a NeoRouter server, you have to open the listen port of NR server to the Internet. Usually you can either change firewall rules or setup port mapping of your router. Once you done with it, you can see green results from the checkport page.

The public IP is detected by our server and your local machine has a private IP. Between them, there should be a router or some devices. You may need access permission to that device to open the port.

There is no change to router/firewall required for NR client.

Thanks,
KevinZ - NeoRouter team
