Post subject:  Passed all the tests.Still cannot access remote pc, except..

Dear helpful souls:

I have tried both the portable and non portable version of client software.

I just cannot get any remote desktop access, although I can mysteriously access shared folders remotely.

1 mystery:
Non portable client can access shared folders in remote pc but cannot access remote desktop.

I can sign in successfully into NeoRouter server and client with public IP , port or domain name.
So hairpin does not seem to be the issue here, according to user manual chart "7.1.1 Troubleshooting steps"

I have watched all the videos and read all the relevant documents at:
http://www.neorouter.com/VideoTour.html

Hardware and operating system tried:
Windows 7
Windows Vista
Router: "TP-Link 300Mbps Wireless N ADSL2+ Modem Router TD-W8960N"

I have forwarded the port in my router.

The Neorouter settings are fine, according to http://www.neorouter.com/checkport.php

I am out of ideas on how to fix this.

Please help.

Hi Busybusy,

Since you can sign in and use File Sharing addon, it means the VPN tunnel works well. It must be some settings related to the RDP (remote access).

There are several settings you may want to check.
1. Any RDP related firewall setting on the Windows on the remote computer
2. Any policy settings related to RDP on the remote computer?
3. If use NR Pro, did you use firewall on and enable RDP service?

Does it work for you to RDP using the private IP instead NR virtual IP?

Thank you kevinz for your fast response.

As per your suggestion I have done some research on RDP.

I am using Windows 7 home premium and Windows Vista Home edition.

I suspect this is where the problem is , since "Not every edition of Windows supports connection via Remote Desktop—Windows 7 Home Premium edition does not, whereas Windows 7 Professional does. To be clear, Windows 7 Home Premium can connect to other Remote Desktop hosts, but you cannot use Remote Desktop to connect to it."

Is this the RDP in Windows you are talking about?
.............Control Panel --- > System --- > Remote settings --- > Remote --- > Allow Remote Assistance connections to this computer

Will spend some time figuring it out.
