Post subject:  early stumbling blocks

I have started to experiment with NeoRouter, my final goal is to help friends overcome common computer problems by looking at the desktops remotely and perhaps making changes or pointing to folders programs etc.

I am using a laptop running Linux Mint and have:
- installed nrserver on my laptop
- installed nrclient on my laptop and netbook (to try out connecting with another computer)
- created a domain (online)
- created an admin account

when I run nrclientcmd and try to connect with my domain I get a Sign in failed - 'Transport endpoint is not connected' error

I am completely new to remote control of other computers, so I do not have the slightest idea what is going on!!

Hi banjoman,

Did you test the NR server status in the Dashboard site? If it's not green, please check the port-forwarding settings in your router.

Thanks,
KevinZ - NeoRouter team

Hold on, maybe I don't need as much spoon feeding a s I thought. Been rooting around for myself!!

I have changed port forwarding settings in my router (from a YouTube video), adding the NeoRouter server and think I have found out how to enable port forwarding on my Mint Linux laptop (uncommented net.ipv4.ip_forward=1 in the file /etc/sysctl.conf)

BUT the port remains closed.....

what can I do next?

Hi banjoman,

Did you double - check the firewall settings on your NR server machine? It requires the listen port to be access from Internet. If you are comfortable with the port-forwarding setting on your router, try to stop firewall and try.

Btw no need to change the ip_forward setting in your linux box.

Thanks,

there is no firewall set on my Linux laptop on which the nrserver software is installed

surely, because I have set up port forwarding on my router, the port I have specified will be accessible from the internet

I have checked my router settings, they are this

still stumbling!!
