Post subject:  Error running NeoRouter on Mac OS 10.4 PowerPC

I have the following error when I try to run NeoRouter on a Mac OS 10.4 PowerPC G5.

/Library/NeoRouter/nrclientcmd; exit
Bus error
logout
[Process completed]

I've installed the latest version of Tun/tap and have uninstalled and reinstalled NeoRouter client (although when I reinstall it tells me it is upgrading the program).

I have also installed it on Mac OS 10.6 Intel and it connects fine.

Hi upekshapriya,

Thanks for your report. Does the nrservice run properly?

Anyone else come cross the similar issue?

Thanks,
KevinZ - NeoRouter Team

Hi KevinZ

Thanks for the prompt reply.

Actually the nrservice has a similar message - I'm not near that Mac at the moment, but after I sent the message I tried the nrservice as well and if I remember rightly it was almost the same.

Regards

The message given when running nrservice is:

/Library/NeoRouter/nrservice; exit
Bus error
logout
[Process completed]

I'm getting the exact same error trying to install the client onto a Mac with OS version 1.4.11 and Intel processor.

I had no trouble installing client into a Mac at OS version 10.5.6 with PowerPC processor.

Seems 10.4 is a problem for the Neorouter Mac client.

Anyone find a solution yet to the "Bus Error" when launching nrclientcmd under 10.4 PPC? nrservice fails to start with the same error.

I did update to the latest tun/tap and have been successfully running Hamachi on this machine for 2 years now. Was hoping to find another solution since v2 may not make it to OS X or Linux.

On the website it says, "NOTE: NeoRouter Free Client requires TUN/TAP device driver to create and manage virtual network interface. If you have /dev/net/tun file, you are all set. Otherwise visit the TUNTAP project for more information."

There is no /dev/net folder in Tiger. tap0, tun0 thru tap15, tun15 reside directly in /dev. Maybe that's the problem? Just a thought....

We have fixed this issue. Now NR runs on Tiger, Leopard and Snow Leopard, both PPC and Intel.

The fix will be included in our next release.

I installed 0.9-9.1528 (over 0.9-8.1438) on my 10.4.11 PowerPC G4 and I still get the Bus Error when running nrclientcmd.

I get no message at all on /Library/StartupItems/nrservice/nrservice start or stop.

I do NOT have a /dev/net/tun folder (as mentioned on the Downloads page) but I do have /dev/tun - is that a typo on the Downloads page or are they really different things? Note that I tried re-installing tuntap (using tuntap_20090913 from their download page) and still don't have a /dev/net/tun folder...

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks!
