Hi

I am trying to get nrserver running on Linux (Ubuntu Server 12.04). So far the server check on a client show up as green, but...

ifconfig -a shows only the physical network adapters and the loopback adapter. There is a /dev/net/tun device:

admin@myserver:/dev/net$ ls -al
total 0
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 60 Jul 12 17:09 .
drwxr-xr-x 16 root root 4500 Jul 12 17:09 ..
crw-rw-rwT 1 root root 10, 200 Jul 12 17:09 tun

admin@myserver:/dev/net$ cat tun
cat: tun: File descriptor in bad state

(my highlight).

I have no idea if this is good or bad or how I get the virtual network adapter to appear.

Thanks in advance for anyone who can shed a bit of light for me here.

Hi ebbek,

It means your TUN/TAP device is ready for use. You can ignore that.

Did you see the nrtap virtual adapter in the ifconfig command results when the NR client service is running?

Thanks,

Great. One down, one to go...

I have not yet seen the virtual adapter with ifconfig. Should the nrservice client be running on my server to? Currently only nrserver is running:
Code:
admin@server:~$ ps aux | grep -i "nr"
root     14297  0.0  0.1  99004  4896 ?        Sl   Jul14   0:33 /usr/bin/nrserver

Thanks for your help.

Some more info:

It seems that I can ping my server when I am away from home. But I cannot do much else. Specifically I have no access to my Samba shares nor to SSH. The latter gives me a "Connection refused" message.

I know, answering my own posts is bad form.

BUT...

That actually was the solution: If you want to access file shares etc. on your Linux server, the nrservice client must be installed and running and you must be logged into it.
So, now my VPN is working again. Consider this problem solved.

I'm interested in kernel 2.6 also please! I lost hours trying to find why you said OpenWRT backfire is supported but it wasn't working!
