Post subject:  nrserver on Leopard: Computer <name>.lan fail to connect

Hi! I'm having an issue with just a simple NeoRouter test case. I've installed the NeoRouter server and client on my OS X Leopard 10.5.8 machine, and I'm failing the simple test case of getting the client to connect to the server.

I tried to connect to localhost (127.0.0.1) and ran nrclientcmd and got an error 0X80820102 - which, as I've gathered here means "Computer not found"

So I set up port forwarding on my router and tried to connect via the domain name. When I run nrclientcmd now it hangs at "Connecting to NeoRouter Server.
"

I created the Log.ini and looked into the logs in hopes of finding any clues. In the server log I did find several occurances of:
Code:
Computer Rocinante.lan fail to connect

and
Code:
SignIn(Computer) Rocinante.lan fail to connect

Rocinante referring to my computer's name.

Do you have any pointers as why the connections are failing?

hi boo,

Thanks for sending us the log files.
The error 0X80820102 may have several meanings (we will provide more specific error codes in our next release). In your case it means signin had failed. Since your nrserver is installed on OSX Leopard, I assume you are signing in with an OS user account, not an account created via NeoRouter Configuration Explorer or nrserver CLI.
Can you open a Terminal window, execute the following commands and send us the result?
Code:
    1. dscl . auth [user] [password] (please use the same user/password you typed in nrclientcmd)
    2. dscl . -readall /Users

Thanks!

Hi boo,

Thank you again for sending me the info.
It turns out that the account was created using nrserver CLI. There is a bug in nrserver 0.9.9 CLI that causes it to create "locked" accounts. Please see this thread viewtopic.php?f=6&t=2281.

To work around this issue, you can try:
- signin nrclientcmd using your OS account. that is the account you use to signin your Mac.
- use NeoRouter Configuration Explorer for Windows to enable the test account. In Edit User dialog, check "Enabled" checkbox. http://www.neorouter.com/wiki/index.php ... r_Accounts

We will fix the bug in nrserver CLI in our next release, and it will be released soon. So if none of the above options work for you, please wait for our next release.

Thanks,

Great! That got me logged in locally.

I'm still unable to log in globally though. I'm thinking this must be an issue with the port forwarding on my router. I know the server requires 32976 to be forwarded. Do I need to enable any forwarding for the client?

Okay, It looks like I was running into two issues - the CLI not enabling accounts and the media hairpin. The problem is resolved and neorouter is working.

Thanks!
