This is probably a silly question but how do you set options in ubuntu server once installed? Installation seemed to complete, did not ask for any options during installation, can connect using ip address from windows machine... Linux client is console based only and not installed with server?!

Hi corrupt,

On Linux, NR server package does not have client software included and you may want to install the NR client package separately.

To setup/config a NR server on Linux, you can:

1. Run Configuration Explorer from a Windows machine and sign in to the server on the linux.

2. Run the NR server CLI tool on the linux box.

Unfortunately, I seem to have had nothing but issues with samba on the Linux machine since installing this (was running ok for a couple years without issues before - but might be coincidental) so it will be removed for now. At the moment I dont see any real benefit to putting the server on this machine anyway...

Edit: The main issue I seemed to be having after fixing samba settings was that only machines on the network with Neorouter running connected to the Ubuntu server could reach the server by name. Other machines that could previously reach the server by name on the network could only reach the server by IP address or would get "invalid name" errors when trying to browse network shares. Seems to be back to normal after removing Neorouter from the server using the instructions here.

Any suggestions? I would like to use Neorouter to connect remotely but don't want to lose the ability to connect to the server by name from other machines on the network that don't have Neorouter installed. Ubuntu 10.04 LTS - Dell PE4600

Hi corrupt,

It looks like a samba setting issue. Samba supports multiple network interfaces and you may have settings like this in the smb.conf

Code:
[global]
    interfaces = eth0 nrtap lo

For more information, please refer to:

Let us know if you still have problem.
