I downloaded 64 bit free server for tests preparing to switch from Hamachi. But user manual only gives install instructions for 32 bit. Is that a signal that 64 bit is not yet stable and recommended? Or is the manual (79 pages, Aug 6, 2013) a little out of date or a little incomplete?

Assuming both 32 bit and 64 bit versions run on 64 bit hardware, is there any real advantage of one over the other? For server or for client? Plan to run about 15 clients, one of which will be doing fairly light duty file serving for the other 14, of which 3-4 are likely to be active at any one time.

Hi bluejay41,

The instructions in the user manual are available for both x64 and x86 versions.

Thanks,

Thanks for the prompt reply, KevinZ. I had already changed the manual's hardcoded "i386" to "amd64" (in fact, I just said "nrserver*" on the dpkg -i command). But my questions are:

1. Do you think 64-bit NeoRouter is as stable as 32-bit, now in 2014? I'd really like to get off Hamachi. I may use Professional or I may use Mesh, after testing Free version.

2. But do I really need 64-bit NeoRouter? Will 32-bit NeoRouter run on 64-bit hardware? I assume it will, but you never know, some programmer could have accidentally or deliberately programmed a dependency on 32-bit architecture into the 32-bit version. If I can run either 32-bit or 64-bit NeoRouter on my 64-bit hardware, is there any clear advantage to the user of one over the other?

Thanks!

Hi bluejay41,

1. Both x86 and x64 versions are stable and fully tested. Both of them have been used by our customers for years.

2. On Linux, x86 version cannot be running on a x64 OS; while on Windows, you do (except drivers, but NeoRouter takes care of it automatically)

Generally x64 version would be faster than x86 version, but it may not be a big factor affecting performance in NeoRouter. In most cases, people choose the version based on their business requirements.

Thanks,
