NeoRouter Team,

It would be really nice a DD-WRT version of NeoRouter Server. IMHO it's one of the best embedded linux firmware for wifi ap/routers.

Thanks for your time,

Hi guindous,

Thanks for your inputs.

We highly recommend and fully support Tomato firmware, that is popular and has better features.

The DD-WRT is popular as well, but we cannot port NeoRouter to it unless we can get the source code of its firmware.

Thanks,
KevinZ - NeoRouter team

Kevinz, have you tried install the ipkg OpenWRT package version to the DD-WRT firmware using the "Firmware Modification Kit"? (http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Development)
If not, i will be glad testing this procedure on my own WRT54g.

Sorry if this question sounds "naive", but I'm DD-WRT user and I prefer DD-WRT rather than Tomatoe firmware.

Thanks in advance for your answer,

Hi Sebastian,

Thanks for your suggestions. But running OpenWRT package on DD-WRT will not work. We tried this method a few months back. We also tested NeoRouter executables compiled using the OptWare toolchain (DD-WRT compatible) and the method failed as well.
If you are interested in a technical explaination, the reason is that when building a firmware package, DD-WRT uses a tool to strip out unused functions from standard libraries like libc. The purpose is to reduce the package size in order to fit into the limited storage. NeoRouter depends on some of the removed functions.
In order to support DD-WRT, we must compile DD-WRT from scratch and get the original libraries. Unfortunatelly DD-WRT team seems to be changing its open source strategy and many people consider the move very controversial. We were unable to compile the source code downloaded from its SVN site.
We sincerely hope to provide the NeoRouter solution to DD-WRT users. But after spending much time and exhausting all the options we could think of, it seems to be a dead end at this moment.

On the other side, have you considered running NeoRouter server on a Windows/Linux PC, or on a second router with Tomato, behind the DD-WRT router?

Please let us know if there is anything we can help.
