I've installed the linux client on 3 pc's now and all of them give the same message.

/usr/bin/nrservice failed to start due to error -2139029502

one was centos 5.5 and one was fedora 12 and the other fedora 11.

I'm hoping I'm just missing a config file or something but I couldn't find documentation on it.

I also don't see any new tap devices in ifconfig.

Anyways, I'd really like this app to work, I currently use n2n and it's windows support is weak and the developers don't seem to be working on it much.

I got the server installed on both linux and windows fine and the windows client seems fine, so it's just the linux client I'm having troubles with.

Hi andrewaggb,

Thanks for trying NeoRouter.

The error code -2139029502(0x80810002)indicates "The nrservice cannot load default settings.", i.e. it may not be able to get the MAC address of your network adapter.

Can you post "ifconfig /a" results? And which version do you use, Pro or Free?

Thanks,
KevinZ - NeoRouter team

It's the free version I'm trying, I assumed pro would be the same.

Also all the hosts are x86_64.

Hi andrewaggb,

I think the problem would be related to the network adapter name. nrservice try to check the network adapter "ethX" (X can be 0,1,2...). It simply tries to find the first adapter and get the MAC. If it cannot find, raise the error.

So can you change a Ethernet adapter name to "eth0"? Any one should work. NRServer uses the unique MAC address to allocate the virtual IP address. I noticed you use the "edg0" or "seth0".

Also I think the Fedora 10 machine should work, right? It has a "eth0", "eth1"... adapters. If it does not work, what's the error?

Let me know if it still does not work.

Thanks,
KevinZ - NeoRouter team

I don't see the nrtap device on the fedora 10 machine but you are correct it does not give the same error, nrservice seems to start fine. I must have been confused yesterday as I thought it did not.

For the virtual machines. I could try to rename the interfaces, but the seth0/1/2 etc is the default naming for synthetic nic's in hyper-v. Any chance a future version of neo router could let you specify the nic name on the command line or in a config file?

Thanks

Hi andrewaggb,

Thanks for your suggestion. We will add the feature allowing users specify the Interface name in the future release.

I think your Fedora 10 is working, since it's running. You may run "nrclientcmd" to log on to the NR server at least once, so that the computer can register to it and gets assigned a virtual IP. After regsitering, you will see the nrtap. And you can quit from nrclientcmd if you don't need it. Then nrserver will connect to the NR server automatically later, even when restart the computer.

Thanks,
KevinZ - NeoRouter team
