Hello all and thanks for your help !

I'm a Neorouter since few years now but today i'm trying to install the NeoRouter Server into my WHR-HP-G54 (Buffalo).

Everything was working great into my FONERA 2.0N since long time !

After Android NeoRouter Client's update, i was unable to connect to the server. Then i updated my Fonera's firmware but lost the NeoRouter's plugin ! And after few search, i had a bad surprise... Foneras aren't supported yet !

Therefor i'm trying to replace this Fonera with a WHR-HP-G54.

I loaded this Tomato's firmware : NeoRouter Free Server for Tomato Firmware v1.28
here: http://www.neorouter.com/downloads_nrfree.html#inabox

What is the "ND" version ? By the way, the actuel (non-ND) firmware seems to work fine on my router...

After the install, i done everything as here: http://www.neorouter.com/wiki/index.php/NeoRouterWiki:ServerSetup#Install_NeoRouter_server_for_Tomato_firmware and here: http://download.neorouter.com/Documents/nr_usermanual_15en.pdf

I enabled jffs and formated it !
Then I add in the WAN up's scripts "/usr/bin/nrserver.sh start" (without " ").
And rebooted the router.

But it's always the same problem... my DynDNS is working fine (checked)
But i can't connect to the server !

I have always the "The address "xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:32976" is closed and the NeoRouter Server cannot be used at this time " message on this test: https://secure.neorouter.com/Dashboard/DomainStatus.aspx

I tryed to scan my router, but the port 32976 seems to be closed.

i tryed "/usr/bin/nrserver.sh start" (with " "), tryed "# /usr/bin/nrserver.sh start" and other commands but never saw this port opened !

I tryed to read the log's files but never saw any "nrserver" maybe i need to check something to see more ?

How can i start this server ?

Thanks for your help !

Sorry for my bad english !

See you !

Hi Topodoco,

Thanks for using NeoRouter.
NeoRouter for Tomato requires 8MB flash to run. According to the following site, Buffalo WHR-HP-G54 has only 4MB of flash. http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/WH ... ifications
If you do not have another router with larger flash, I would recommend install OpenWRT on this Buffalo router. NeoRouter for OpenWRT works fine on 4MB devices.

You can find more information on system requirements at the top of the Download page.
Let me know if you have more questions.

Thanks,
Luke

Hi Luke,

thank you for the answer !
I have another access point in my network, but it's a Fonera2.0n which is not supported anymore by NR.

I have an unused Linksys WRT54GL v1.1 but the problem will be the same, because he have not more memory.

Then i tryed to flash the Buffalo WHR-HP-G54 with the OpenWRT:
NeoRouter Free Server for OpenWrt Backfire (mipsel)
from here: http://www.neorouter.com/downloads_nrfree.html#inabox

I was used to use some different firmware, HyperWRT, dd-WRT... but i never tryed OpenWRT.
After i flashed (using TFTP), i saw the router at 192.168.1.1
I tryed to connect to this address but without success.
I though something gone wrong and i tryed to flash it again... but the result was the same !
I though i done a mistake and flashed back to Tomato, then erased the nvram and flashed again with the OpenWRT (Neorouter server).
But again no access to the GUI.
Then I flashed the OpenWRT without NeoRouter and all was same same => no GUI.

After few search, i saw some OpenWRT have a GUI and i though some other don't have it !
Probably why this firmware only need 4Mb !

Then I flashed the router back to OpenWRT with NR Server.

I searched on the internet and as i understood, i should connect on the router using TELNET.

I'm under W7 x64 and TELNET was not working !

I searched again and found the command:
pkgmgr /iu:TelnetClient [ENTER]
pkgmgr /iu:TelnetServer [ENTER]

Now TELNET seems to work !

But while i type "TELNET 192.168.1.1", i have no answer !
Nothing connect...

Of course i have set my network card as 192.168.1.10.

How can i connect and change the settings in this OpenWRT NeoRouter server ?

I never used a firmware without GUI and will need to set the wireless network, the IP address, the NeoRouter Server, and change the router from "router" to "access point only" (i have another router in head of the network).

Thanks for your help !
Topodoco

Hi Topodoco,

NeoRouter for OpenWRT is just a package, not a full firmware. This is different from NeoRouter for Tomato.
To install NeoRouter, you need to flash your router with the correct OpenWRT Backfire firmware, then you should get access to web GUI, Telnet/SSH. Then you can install the neorouter server package.
You can find more detailed instructions in User's Manual "2.2.6 Install NeoRouter Server on OpenWRT Backfire". http://www.neorouter.com/Documents.html.

Thanks,
Luke

Hello Luke !
Thanks for the answer !

Now i'm done with OpenWRT !!

I used TFTP2 to flash the router
link: http://www.shadowsoftware.net/shadowgameworld/downloads/tftp2.exe

I flashed this firmware (backfire 10.03) :
http://downloads.openwrt.org/backfire/10.03/brcm-2.4/openwrt-brcm-2.4-squashfs.trx

Then it was avaible on 192.168.1.1

I changed the password using "telnet 192.168.1.1", then "passwd" and entering the new password. Then left telnet using "exit".

After that all was avaible wia the GUI (Luci) at the address 192.168.1.1

Username: root, and password as defined before !

I changed everything i needed to have again my network settings !

Next step will be to add Neorouter in OpenWRT !

I hope this post could help other members !

See you soon !

Now... i have problem....

I can connect to my router using Putty (SSH):
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/download.html

but i can't do as wrote in this help:
http://www.neorouter.com/wiki/index.php/NeoRouterWiki:ServerSetup#Install_NeoRouter_server_for_OpenWrt

while i type: "opkg update", the answer is:
Quote:
Downloading http://downloads.openwrt.org/backfire/1 ... ackages.gz.
wget: bad address 'downloads.openwrt.org'
Collected errors:
* opkg_download: Failed to download http://downloads.openwrt.org/backfire/1 ... ackages.gz, wget returned 1.

Same for Step 2... can't download the NeoRouter Firmware update...

I don't know what to do...

Could anyone help me please ?

Hi Topodoco,

The command works for me. Please check your internet connection.

Quote:
root@OpenWrt:~# opkg update
Downloading http://downloads.openwrt.org/backfire/1 ... ackages.gz.
Inflating http://downloads.openwrt.org/backfire/1 ... ackages.gz.
Updated list of available packages in /var/opkg-lists/packages.

Thanks,
Luke

Hey Luke !

Thanks for the answer !

I found my mistake.. it's because i don't use the WAN port, my router will only work as Acces-point, swtich and NRserver).
I tryed to connect it to the WAN but was the same...
Since i did a factory reset, it's OK !
I connected internet on the WAN and my PC on a LAN.
I tryed again and the 1st demand is OK:
Quote:
root@OpenWrt:~# opkg update
Downloading http://downloads.openwrt.org/backfire/1 ... ackages.gz.
Inflating http://downloads.openwrt.org/backfire/1 ... ackages.gz.
Updated list of available packages in /var/opkg-lists/packages.

But for the 2nd part i still have a memory problem !!!
Quote:
root@OpenWrt:~# opkg install http://download.neorouter.com/Downloads/NRFree/Upda

Installing libopenssl (0.9.8m-3) to root...

Configuring uclibcxx.
Collected errors:
* verify_pkg_installable: Only have 1084kb available on filesystem /overlay, pkg libopenssl needs 1313
* opkg_install_cmd: Cannot install package nrserver.

Why that ?
I though OpenWRT should be "light" enough to run NRserver !
What can i do now ? :o

hi Topodoco,

The size of nrserver had increased recently to support new features like web client. You may need a router with larger flash. You can also try to install non-essential packages from openWRT and see if that helps? Also if your router supports USB drive, you can move nrserver there.

Thanks,
Luke
