Obviously you need one nrserver running. What about installing nrserver on more than one machine in a domain? Is that a good idea (a little redundancy is a good thing, right)? Bad idea? Impossible? User manual does not answer this question! In fact, a big problem with the user manual is that there is not enough info about overall topology of NeoRouter domains for new users to get a grasp on how it really works. This is confounded by NeoRouter's eccentric use of terms "client" and "server" -- users will always assume "server" means "file server", so you should use "mediation server" to make clear the role of the machine(s) which run(s) a mediation service so P2P ciients can find each other. New users may well install both nrserver and NeoRouter client on each and every machine in their vpn, reasoning that P2P clients surely need both the server software and the client software to work at all.

Hi bluejay41,

Thanks for your suggestion. Some users may be confused by the terminology used in our user manual and we will improve it in the future.

You are right , NeoRouter server is something like "mediation server" and relay server. Unlike OpenVPN or some other traditional VPN software/service, NeoRouter server helps NeoRouter Client to create a virtual LAN cross the Internet. The server is not an end point.

Each NeoRouter server can be associated with zero or one NeoRouter domain. But a NeoRouter domain cannot be shared by multiple NeoRouter servers. It means NeoRouter servers have no connection.

Let us know if you have any question.

Thanks,
KevinZ - NeoRouter team

Thank you, that clears it up. Only one NeoRouter server per domain.

Hi pigphish,

Each NR server can be associated with one domain name while running, but you can change to any domain name any time. A machine can host one NR server for now. A client can belong to multiple domains, but can be active in one domain and switch to other domain.

Thanks,

Can granular control be applied to each domain. Meaning, can I restrict access and visibility to certain computers?

I think he means that since you have complete control over what machines can join each domain, and you can set up as many domains as you want, and you don't have to tell anyone what domains you have set up, much less tell them the passwords they need to participate in a given domain, that the question you ask doesn't arise. ;)
